I had the privilege to spend time photographing Alicia and Dan, and their sweet two beautiful children, Samuel and Genevieve in December. We decided to meet at Piedmont Park because they live in a pretty apartment nearby, and the Atlanta park in the winter is stunning.
I personally love winter walks, and that is basically what we all did, except stopping to read a couple of books and pausing at the locations that we deemed well-fitting.
Of course there was never a dull moment in this shoot- little Samuel rarely sat still and there were some tears here and there, all part of a normal family shoot with little ones. The laughter and "cute-ness" always outweighs the fidgety and occasional (adorable) tantrum. After this session I realized I love how much life lends itself to the camera when there are children around. It can be seen as a difficult task to photograph their non-stop nature, but it also allows for more of the candid photographs that are my favorites. There is much more living rather than self-awareness. I am the first to admit it takes some considerable time for me to feel okay being photographed, as that's natural, but young ones could care less. They have no hesitation with me in front of them with a lens, and it sometimes evokes adorable curious faces. Dan and Alicia were so great to accommodate to my camera, always ready to smile and aware of what Samuel and Genevieve needed to be comfortable.
